APA Citation Guide

Film or Video

General Rule:

Director-last-name, First-initial (Director), (Year), Title [Film], Studio.

Example:

Koster, H, (Director), (1950), Harvey [Film], Universal Studios. 

Streaming Video

General Rule:

Uploader last-name, First-initial., (Year), Title [format], Website Name, URL 

  • List the person who uploaded the video as author even if they did not create the work. Note the contribution of others in the text narrative. 
  • If both the user name and author's real name are known use the real name followed by the user name in square brackets. 

Example:

CycloneB, (2010), How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop? [Video],

YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xY2A7WIOqCA

 

TV Show from a Series

General Rule:

Writer-last-name, First-initial., (Writer), & Director-last-name, First-initial. (Director), (Year),Title of episode [TV series episode], In Executive producer last-name, First-Initial (Executive producer), Title of series, Production Company.

Example:

   Whedon, J., (Writer), Des Hotel, R., (Writer), Batali, D., (Writer), & Sarafian, D., (Director), (1998), Killed by death [TV series episode], In J. Whedon, et al., (Executive Producers), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, WB Television Network.  

 

Music Recording

General Rule:

Writer last name, First-initial., (Year of recording), Title of song [Recorded by artist if different from writer], On Title of Album, Label, (Year of original composition if different from recording date).

If the song is not associated with an album omit that part of the citation. 

Example:

   Frisell, B., (1999), The pioneers, On Good dog, happy man, Nonesuch Records.
